Our Donegal Product Range

As has been mentioned in other parts of this website, Donegal Yarns has not just been a manufacturer of “Donegal Effect” yarn for the weaving trade. It led the revival of the “Donegal” as knitting yarn by developing a finer, softer form of the traditional homespun yarn. Although still produced and spun in the same traditional method for over a century, it meets all the qualities expected from a natural fibre modern Yarn.

Four separate stock ranges are offered by Donegal Yarns:-

Aran Tweed | Celtic Tweed | Soft Donegal | Irish Heather | Finished Garments

Aran Tweed

This range is our original Aran weight (thickness) knitting yarn (1.61nm). It is suitable for both handknitting and 2 ½ gauge machine knitting.

Celtic Tweed

This range is slightly finer in thickness (1.8nm) than the Aran range and uses slightly softer wools. Once again it also follows the traditional homespun Donegal characteristics.

Soft Donegal

This range is our original Aran weight (thickness) knitting yarn (1.61nm). It is suitable for both handknitting and 2 ½ gauge machine knitting.

Irish Heather

Our 3 ply 1.61nm. Aran range, for the traditional handknitting industry.
